What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little unluckiness, but we sometimes see heat pump problems in Ronkonkoma during the cooler months, when they’re necessary to keep you toasty. While you know the team at Cool Power LLC will always be there ASAP when you require us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to double check a repair is important and save yourself some money if it’s not. We’ve collected this checklist of things to test before you give us a call. It may sound silly, but make sure everything is switched “on”. We’ve been to more than a few calls only to realize the thermostat or the heat pump itself is set to off. Inspect your thermostat to make sure it’s on, fixed to the appropriate temperature and isn’t fixed to cool. Then try changing the battery, if it has one. If everything looks accurate, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re not sure where it is) and inspect your fuses and circuit breaker. Make sure your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t turned on, go back to your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, make sure it’s showing the accurate time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s really night, it may not switch your heat on because it doesn’t think you’re home. Is a blockage causing your furnace to not work? Inspect your air filters to ensure they’re not jamming things up. Do you have any congested ducts, vents or cool air openings? Are all supply registers open? Is your exhaust flue open? If you’ve moved through this checklist and you’re still without heat, call Cool Power LLC at 631-360-2665 or set up an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the welcoming and cozy place it should be.
